IRQ and PnP/PCI peripherals - 8/9

The graphic interface and the settings of your pc could be different from the ones taken back here. For this reason you refer to the manual of your mother card for greater information and specific settings.

PnP Operative System Installed [Yes/No]

When this option is activated, the system resources will be assigned by the operating system, which must be compatible with the PnP (Plug and Play) specifications. For the microsoft operating systems as from Windows 95 OSR2, activating the setting is advisable. If I am in the system please etc. install other systems as operating as SCO, Unix. not activating this setting as such operating environments follow some standards of theirs for the survey and the assignation of the resources for the peripherals is advisable.

Force Update ESCD [Enabled/Disabled]

When two or more peripherals enter conflict, could not be possible start the operating system and therefore not have the possibility manually to assign the resources ( IRQ, DMA, I/O doors etc. ). To get round al' inconvenience it is possible to try to activate this setting, which restores the content of the ESCD (Extended System Configuration dates), an area of the memory containing the information of the resources assigned to the single peripherals. In case one was not able to melt the problem removing is recommended the or the peripherals which cause the conflict, therefore install the available most up-to-date driver at the moment.

Resources Controlled by [Auto (ESCD)/Manual]

When the resources are manually checked, assigning the system interrupt for the suitable type of peripheral is necessary. In the past being worried about the compatibilities with the ISA old peripherals was necessary. The car setting automatically assigns the resources on the basis of the information contained in the ESCD (see above).

PCI/VGA Palette Snoop [Enabled/Disabled]

This setting is used only to solve the visualization problems with dedicated MPEG decompression cards. In such specific case, set up the voice on Enabled to allow the BIOS to monitor the visualization passages between the principal card and the card of decodes.

Assign IRQ for VGA [Enabled/Disabled]

This setting assigns an IRQ channel to the graphic card, allowing the revival of the system from a hibernation state when activity is noticed on the graphic card. If the setting is deactivated, the operating system will assign an IRQ which could not be the same suitable in the ESCD, causing possible start problems and session closing. However could be necessary deactivate the option to avoid conflicts with peripherals not perfectly compatible with the modes of ACPI energy saving.

Assign IRQ for USB [Enabled/Disabled]

This setting allows to assign or minus an IRQ signal for the controller of the USB doors. If in the system there are conflicts due to the lack of an IRQ, this setting can be set up on Disabled, freeing such a precious resource. However some microsoft operating systems can send in crash the system if the USB doors do not have an IRQ available. If they do not have problems leaving on Enabled this setting is advisable.

PIRQ_0-3 use IRQ No. [Auto/3/4/5/7/9/10/11/12/14/15]

This setting allows to assign various IRQ signals to every slot PCI and is established by the builder of every mother card. Modifying the settings in the following cases is necessary: 1 - two peripherals to other performances share the same IRQ, with the consequent time dispute of the IRQ, causing a strong reduction of the performances when the peripherals concurrently work. Example: controller of the discs and card of display acquisition. If two peripherals of this type share the itself one IRQ can be losses of photograms or excessive occupation of the CPU there. 2 - two or more peripherals are in conflict and the operating system does not allow the modification of the IRQ, also moving the cards between the slot PCI. 3 - audio registers her or any other peripheral an IRQ with the controller of the discs shares. In this case could be you scricchiolii in reproduction or problems of the same nature when the disc unit is engaged. This problem is well well-known to many possessors of audio SoundBlaster Live cards!

ATTENTION: to avoid conflicts, when you insert one or more PCI cards on the mother card, you avoid the slot where the IRQ will be shared with the peripherals which engage the bus in massive way. For instance, avoiding inserting audio, IDE/SCSI controller, cards is good rule acquisition cards etc.. in the slot which share the IRQ with the graphic card and the supplemented controller of the discs in the mother card. Refer to the manual of your mother card to know how it is organized the condivisione some IRQ.
